African Empires And Kingdoms

Between the 9th and 15th centuries, various parts of Africa developed unevenly. Some were still displaying forms of communalism (advanced or not), while others were emerging as small or larger power states with some feudal characteristics, or a mixture of both. Nevertheless, Africa and Africans kept advancing in history, making contributions to the entire world.

Dismantling Imperialism From An Afro Perspective (PT.II) (a collaboration with UChicago Students)

This quarter, we are exploring some current anti-imperialist struggles spearheaded by African people, from the diaspora to the continent. From the liberation struggle of the Saharwi people to the nature of French economic oppression of the African people in Kanaki, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. Finally, to finish with a word of hope, we will discuss the nucleus of Modern Revolutionary Pan-Africanism embodied by the people and leaders of the AES.
